LSU defensive lineman reportedly decides to enter NCAA transfer portal
LSU is getting ready for Year 1 under new head coach Brian Kelly, and the roster is still a work in progress.
Though the May 1 deadline has passed for players who want to enter the NCAA transfer portal without sitting out a year, players can still decide to transfer.
On Thursday, Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports reported that LSU DL Soni Fonua had decided to explore his transfer options as the 2022 season approaches:

Fonua came to LSU ahead of the 2019 season via the JUCO ranks. He played in 4 games in 2019, but didn’t record any stats. In 2020, he had 7 tackles in 7 games. This past year, he recorded 27 tackles (6.5 for a loss), half a sack and 1 pass breakup.
Where he ends up next remains to be seen. But, without a waiver from the NCAA, he likely won’t be able to play right away at the FBS level.

Disappointing. I’m sure he would have been in the rotation again, but I guess he wants to be a starter. Oh well, next man up.
He was playing well last season. He may have been slipping on the depth chart. If he wants to play in 2022, some FCS team will be getting a great All-Conference candidate.
Does he really want to sit a year? Being in a rotation is a lot better than not being on the field at all. I do admire his patience.
No worries. Recruiting is easy at LSU. Kelly will just have to put on his dancing shoes.
That might be his downfall if he keeps it up doing that.
