Former NC State defensive back Tamarcus Cooley committed to the Tigers on Monday. The team made a post announcing the move, saying that Cooley is “officially a Tiger.”
Cooley entered the portal on Jan. 2 after collecting 39 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 3 interceptions for the Wolfpack in 2024.
LSU will be the 3rd school in 3 years for Cooley, who started at Maryland before transferring to NC State. Over 2 seasons of college ball, Cooley has 43 tackles, 3 TFLs, 1 sack, and 3 INTs.
Before college, Cooley starred for Rolesville High School in Rolesville, NC. The 247Sports Composite ranking had Cooley rated as a 3-star prospect, the No. 85 safety, and the No. 28 prospect out of North Carolina in the 2023 class. Cooley committed to Maryland out of high school, choosing the Terrapins over offers from North Carolina, Minnesota, and Ole Miss, among others.
Now, Cooley will join a Tigers’ secondary that struggled in 2024, finishing No. 76 in the nation in pass defense.
Cooley is now the 16th player to commit to the Tigers via the portal this offseason. The defense has been significantly upgraded on paper, with edge rushers Jack Pyburn and Patrick Payton, alongside DBs Mansoor Delane and Ja’Keem Jackson all joining the team.
