The LSU Tigers had a star running back this year in Derrius Guice, but they also had a reliable and talented backup in Darrel Williams.

Williams finished the season with 820 yards and nine touchdowns — great numbers for a backup.

But, as he prepares to embark on a potential NFL career, he’s eager to prove he’s not just a backup. He told The Advocate ahead of this week’s Senior Bowl that he’s excited for the opportunity to show what he can do on a big stage in front of NFL scouts and coaches:

“I want to show everybody that I’m not just a backup back,” Williams said. “I can be a starter anywhere on any team. All I need is the opportunity to show everybody. Everybody’s going to see some of my skills that they didn’t see at LSU.”

Guice will be the big name in the 2018 NFL Draft, of course, coming off of two monster seasons in a row. However, if a team takes a chance on Williams in a later round, the payoff could be huge.

He doesn’t have as much wear and tear as the other backs and could very well prove capable of handling a bigger workload at the next level.
