LSU’s reputation as “DBU” looks to be standing on firm footing as one of the state’s top defensive backs just announced he has committed to Ed Orgeron’s program.

The latest commit for the Tigers comes from Baton Rouge native and Madison Prep Academy product Major Burns, who announced his decision by releasing a commitment video on Thursday. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Burns ranks as the No. 6 safety in the nation, Louisiana’s No. 4 overall prospect and a top 150 recruit in the 2020 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Burns joins fellow LSU 2020 commits Elias Ricks, a five-star corner from California, and Lorando Johnson, a four-star corner from Texas, to form arguably the nation’s top group of defensive backs in the latest recruiting cycle.

The standout defensive back from Madison Prep Academy was previously committed to Texas A&M but backed off that pledge this spring.

Immediately after this video was posted, Ed Orgeron confirmed that LSU had just received a commitment.

Following this news, LSU is up to 16 commitments for the 2020 recruiting cycle. Of those 16 pledges, 13 come from recruits rated as four- or five-star prospects. LSU’s class ranks as the nation’s No. 3 recruiting class and No. 2 in the SEC, just slightly behind Alabama for the league’s best.
