The Chiefs have to really be grateful they drafted Clyde Edwards-Helaire at the tail end of the first round in the 2020 NFL Draft.

If you recall, Andy Reid asked star quarterback Pat Mahomes who Kansas City should draft leading up to the pick and LSU’s outstanding running back was the selection of the team’s signal-caller.

What a wise move that turned out to be as Chiefs running back Damien Williams has opted out of the 2020 NFL season, leaving the door open for the rookie running back to have an even bigger impact on the coming season.

That’s the way NFL Media’s Daniel Jeremiah views the situation as he was recently asked on the NFL Network to name a rookie that will have the biggest impact on the coming season. New York Jets rookie offensive lineman Mekhi Becton was the name that initially came to mind for Jeremiah but then the NFL analyst pointed toward the impact Edwards-Helaire is poised to have during the 2020 season.

“I’ll add one more, we just saw a picture of him with Clyde Edwards-Hilaire. With (Kansas City’s) running back position where it is right now with Damien Williams opting out, I always thought he would be a big factor with this offense, but now it goes up even more,” Jeremiah said. “We’re seeing the highlights of him running the football here Andrew, but he’s gonna be Mr. Check Down.

“With all the speed, with Tyreek Hill pressing off those safeties and creating space, Clyde Edwards-Hilaire is going to catch a zillion balls from Patrick Mahomes this year, he’s going to have a big year.”

If you haven’t already, now would be the time to put some money on Edwards-Hilaire to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
