Nick Saban has had an incredible run at Alabama.

He’s won 6 national titles with the Crimson Tide since taking the job before the 2007 season and has an overall career mark at the school of 185-26.

That success makes it sometimes easy to forget that Saban spent 5 years at LSU from 2000-04, where he won another national title and was 48-16 overall.

During ESPN’s “Week 8 Recap” on YouTube, college football analysts Matt Barrie and Paul Finebaum were talking about LSU’s resurgence the last couple of weeks. The conversation, however, steered toward what might have been if Saban had never left Baton Rouge.

Finebaum in particular had some interesting comments and opinions on the hypothetical matter.

“I will argue this til my last day, Matt, that Nick Saban still carries a torch for LSU,” Finebaum said. “It was a special place. I don’t think he wanted to leave. I think his wife wanted to stay, but he got offered the big money from Wayne Huizenga and the Dolphins and he simply couldn’t turn it down. But he still has friends down there.”

The duo then discusses just how many titles Saban could have won with the Tigers is he had stayed.

“They won one with him and one without him,” Finebaum added.. “…He’s won six at Alabama. Could he have nine or 10 at LSU? Yes, he could have.”
