There is still a lot of discussion among college football analysts as to who should be the next head coach at LSU. Some think it should be Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher or Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.  On “The ESPN College Football Podcast,” David Pollack recently explained why the Tigers should hire Dave Aranda. Pollack’s colleague, Rece Davis, made the case for Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.

Here’s how the O’Brien conversation went, per Erik Hall of the Lafayette Daily Advertiser:

“I think Bill O’Brien is going to be the next coach at LSU,” Davis said.

“Oh my god, OK,” Pollack said.

Davis responded, “It’s not the first choice. The first choice is Jimbo Fisher.”

“But Jimbo Fisher ain’t leaving,” Pollack said.

“Right, precisely,” Davis responded.

Pollack continued to express disbelief. Davis’ case for O’Brien came down to 2 key points: the NFL and Penn State.

“I think Bill O’Brien is on several lists,” Davis said. “Not just theirs. He’s a former NFL head coach. He did a remarkable job at Penn State.”

“So I think there are a lot of people in hiring positions — not just at LSU — who are considering him and like the NFL experience, even if it did go sour at the end,” Davis said. “There is some attractiveness to having that NFL experience.”

It’s gearing up to be a wild coaching carousel.
