Report: Baylor interested in LSU assistant as next head coach
As Baylor continues its search to replace Matt Rhule, who left to coach the Carolina Panthers, a prominent SEC assistant has come into focus.
LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda has been mentioned by Football Scoop as someone Baylor is interesting in speaking with about the job.
There are several names mentioned as possible candidates for the Baylor job, including Virginia Tech’s Justin Fuente, Louisiana’s Billy Napier, who reportedly interviewed today. Arkansas State head coach Blake Anderson and current Baylor assistant Joey McGuire are also believed to be candidates.
Aranda, the nation’s highest-paid defensive coordinator with an annual salary of $2.5 million, was connected to the UNLV job, according to multiple reports last month. Aranda in previous years turned down interest from Texas A&M to remain at LSU, where he finished his fourth season with a national championship.
Yahoo’s Pete Thamel has reported that Fuente is a leading candidate.
News: Baylor is targeting Virginia Tech’s Justin Fuente as next coach and is planning an in person interview in next 24 hours, multiple sources tell @YahooSports. Fuente is considered leading candidate.
