Less than two weeks removed from announcing his plans to leave LSU via transfer, former four-star recruit Saivion Smith will reportedly head to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to play football in 2017.

This move would allow Smith to return to FBS in 2018 with three years to play two if he chooses to return to college football’s highest level following a season at Mississippi Gulf. Provided he has a big season in 2017, Smith will likely be among the nation’s highest-rated JUCO prospects in the upcoming recruiting cycle.

Upon leaving LSU, Smith had nothing but glowing things to say regarding the Tigers, Coach O or his staff, saying ‘it was an honor and a privilege to put on the Purple and Gold’ in his transfer statement. However, citing a need to grow as a student and athlete, Smith said he would leave Baton Rouge.

While no destination was announced at that time, JuCo Football Forer claims the former elite recruit in the 2016 recruiting cycle is headed to Mississippi Gulf next season.

Smith was the No. 5 cornerback prospect in the nation, the No. 7 overall recruit from Florida and the nation’s No. 48 overall prospect in the 2016 recruiting cycle, according to 247Sports Composite Ratings. He was also an Under Amour All-American coming out of high school.
