Report: LSU down to 2 head coaching candidates
According to a report from The Advocate, LSU has narrowed its head coach search down to Houston head coach Tom Herman and interim head coach Ed Orgeron.
It was reported that Orgeron met with LSU AD Joe Alleva on Friday morning to discuss the job. It appears as if Herman is the top target for the job — although he shot down the rumor prior to Houston’s 48-44 loss to Memphis on Friday.
Texas is also said to be pursuing Herman extremely hard. However, the Longhorns still have a head coach under contract in Charlie Strong. There isn’t a timetable for LSU hiring a head coach. As it pertains to Herman, a bidding war may ultimately arise between UT and LSU.
Orgeron allegedly laid out a detailed plan for the future with Alleva. He plans on hiring a successful and proven offensive coordinator, and would also like to retain popular defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.
Many players have publicly offered their support for Orgeron to be named as the head coach. A proud Louisiana native, Orgeron appears to be a very good fit from a cultural standpoint.
Are we going to pretend that Herman didn’t lose 3 games to double digit underdogs?
Four, if you count the loss from last year.
For some reason, I think if Herman got the job he would have seasons where he would beat a ranked Alabama and Auburn, but then lose to underdog Mississippi State and Arkansas later on.
I’m not sure what to make of Herman. He gets his team up for all the big games, but they have sure blown a lot of games where they were big favorites. I’m fine with either he or Orgeron as the next HC. I just don’t want LSU in a bidding war with Texas over him. No use overpaying for an unproven coach who is only chasing the money. If he wants to be at LSU, that is great, but we shouldn’t just try and buy him.
Totally agree with you!! What else does Coach O need to do to prove himself? He has a winning record in 2 very high profile schools
I think it will be O.
Why are we treating Coach O like a highschool crush? He’s clearly intrested in the job and WANTS to be there. Instead we are trying to chase down the hot new thing.
Keep Coach O for the cheap and find a OC worth a damn.
So Coach-O-cinco wants to be there, is loved by the players, and is one helluva recruiter with ties in the state…. Makes perfect sense to chase an unproven coach.
GIVE THE DAMN JOB TO ORGERON. He has earned it, he deserves it and has proven himself worthy. If you think you can buy success with big $$$, better take a look at Notre Dame and Texas. No guarantees that Herman will do any better than those to much heralded, high profile coaches. Keep Orgeron and give him some big $$$ for coordinators and staff. It is time to end the Circus that this has become.
I hope Orgeron gets the job WITHOUT Texas hiring Tom Herman. Joe Alleva needs to prove he has some comman sense for once.
*Common. As in common sense. Something my phone lacks, apparently.
