Report: LSU adding former NFL, Division II assistants to Ed Orgeron's staff
LSU has reportedly made two new hires to Ed Orgeron’s staff.
Matt Zenitz of AL.com is reporting that LSU has hired Gerald Chatman and Antonio Fenelus as analysts. Both coaches were previously working outside the FBS ranks as defensive coaches.
Chatman was a defensive assistant with the Cincinnati Bengals the past two seasons. In January, the Bengals announced they were not retaining three assistants, including Chatman.
Fenelus comes to LSU from the Division II ranks. A former All-Big Ten defensive back at Wisconsin, Fenelus was most recently the defensive coordinator at East Central University in Oklahoma. Fenelus joined the East Central staff ahead of the 2018 season. Fenelus also has coaching experience as a graduate assistant working with defensive backs at Wisconsin.
Hold that tiger!
While Alabama is hiring former power five headcoaches as analysts (with Coach Yawyaw joining the ranks next season). LSU is hiring guys who are one sorry step up from the JUCO ranks.
Yeah, this is how you keep up with Nick Saban. This is what you do.
This season’s gonna go real hard on you folks.
Of course you’d have such a positive outlook for LSU.
In the meantime, Bama lost their #1 recruiter (besides Little Nicky) and DB coach Karl Scott to the Vikings, to replace Daronte Jones who came to LSU. Coach O is playing chess while you’re still reading the instructions for checkers.
Nicky’s got the DBs handled anyway, but it’s the *recruiting loss* that’s a real killer. Coach O is right on your recruiting heels and gaining momentum, while you’re undeniably losing it.
Dude’s pretty old by now….how much longer is it going to be?
One from NFL & one from D2, everyone starts somewhere. Just because someone was a coach @ P5 school doesn’t mean crap. Look at what happened last year with BP what a dumpster fire. I think O is looking for fit more than a name. We will see how it all plays out on the field. I agree Nick Saban gets it right more often than most. See you on the field.
