LSU freshman offensive lineman Kardell Thomas is expected to miss two months recovering from an injury he suffered this week.

According to The Advertiser’s Glenn Guilibeau, Thomas suffered an ankle injury that required surgery.

Thomas, from Baton Rouge, was rated a 4-star prospect and was ranked as the nation’s No. 4 overall offensive guard and the state of Louisiana’s No. 4 overall prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Ed Orgeron spoke to media members Wednesday following practice, and at that time, Coach O didn’t know how serious it was.

“Kardell Thomas was getting some (reps), but Kardell just received an injury right there (at practice),” Orgeron said after practice on Wednesday. “I don’t know how serious it is, we are going to see, but I am sure he will be out for a little while. So that’s another injury for the offensive line.”

Thomas had been competing at right and left guard battling with Adrian Magee and Donavaughn Campbell.

Obviously, anytime teams lose linemen during fall camp, it’s a big deal, and LSU is getting thinner at offensive guard. Hopefully, Thomas will heal quickly from his injury and return sometime in the mid-October timeframe.
