Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman had the chance to meet with his former player and current LSU safety Greg Brooks in the hospital on Saturday before the Razorbacks’ game against the Tigers.

Brooks had to undergo brain surgery earlier in September to remove a tumor and is on the road to recovery now. Brooks spent 3 seasons at Arkansas before transferring to LSU ahead of the 2022 season.

Despite his transferring, Pittman still has lots of love for Brooks and his family. Even though it meant meeting with the opposition, Pittman had no problem spending time with Brooks before the game on Saturday.

“Well, we love him. And he was part of our program and he left and he left in good graces, and he did all the things he needed to do while he was here,” Pittman said during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday. “We love his mawmaw and pawpaw and his daddy, and we needed to show him, in my opinion, the respect that he deserved, and we’re worried about him. We pray for him each and every day. I still talk to his mawmaw and pawpaw and dad every day and we’re praying for him. To be honest with you, it was the right thing to do, but it’s also something I wanted to do, I wanted to show the family, and hopefully I could get to be able to talk to Greg, and I wanted to show the family the respect that they deserve.”

Last season, Brooks recorded 63 tackles and 2 interceptions. LSU would love to have him back on the field soon, but his full recovery remains the top priority.
