Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines have a strange QB situation heading into the 2022 season.

The Wolverines announced over the weekend that Cade McNamara would start in Week 1, with JJ McCarthy earning the start in Week 2. That means the Week 3 starter will be determined based on how each guy performs.

On Monday, Harbaugh was asked about how he came to the decision, and he said it was “biblical,” invoking the story of King Solomon:

“It’s a process,” Harbaugh began. “It is a process. For me to stand up… I mean, no person — that’s biblical. No person knows what the future holds. It’s a process. It’ll be based on performance. We’re not going to withhold any good thing. Both have been tremendous quarterbacks. We think that both are capable of leading our team to a championship. That’s good. We’re going to keep cultivating that.

“Some people have asked how we came to that decision. Is it based on some sort of NFL model? No, it’s really based biblical. Solomon. He was known to be a pretty wise person.”

It’s certainly strange to associate making a quarterback decision with the Bible, but Harbaugh is no stranger to odd comments. We’ll see if this unorthodox way of managing quarterbacks works for the Wolverines.
