Mississippi State’s makeover on the defensive side of the ball continues under the leadership of new coordinator Zach Arnett as the 3-3-5 defense requires a number of versatile athletes on the field at the same time to be most efficiently run.

Taking a look at Mississippi State’s 2021 recruiting board and you’ll see the list features several prospects that could line up all over the defensive backfield in Arnett’s system but the search for added reinforcements continues heading into training camp as the Bulldogs have secured commitment No. 15 of the 2021 recruiting cycle on Friday.

Interestingly, Mississippi State found its new pledge in Oxford as Lafayette High School prospect Brendan Toles has announced his commitment to the Bulldogs heading into the weekend.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Oxford native is rated as a three-star prospect, the No. 156 cornerback in the nation and the No. 26 recruit from the state of Mississippi in the 2021 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

During his junior season at Lafayette High School, Toles registered 52 tackles, nine pass breakups and one interception. He also had eight catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns for Lafayette’s offense.
