Brenen Thompson, former Oklahoma WR, reportedly commits to Mississippi State
Brenen Thompson is staying in the SEC, according to reports.
The former Oklahoma wide receiver entered the transfer portal on Friday, becoming the 6th OU wideout to do so (so far). According to On3’s Pete Nakos, he’s made the quick decision to re-unite with Jeff Lebby at Mississippi State:
Thompson began his collegiate career at Texas but spent the previous 2 seasons at Oklahoma. That included the 2023 season when Lebby served as OU’s offensive coordinator. He caught 26 passes for 471 yards and 4 touchdowns during his time in Norman, going over 200 receiving yards in each campaign.
Thompson is known as a speedster — he averaged over 30 yards per reception in his first 2 seasons in college, albeit on a very small sample (8 total receptions). He averaged 18.1 yards per touch over the past 2 seasons, which ranks 36th nationally (per Radar360) amongst players with at least 25 touches over that span.
Mississippi State is expected to be aggressive in the transfer portal as the program prepares for Year 2 under Lebby. The Bulldogs are also actively recruiting quarterbacks (including OU’s Jackson Arnold) following the expected departure of Michael Van Buren.
