Cyrus Reyes is a highly-touted recruit out of Texas.

The star safety initially committed to Memphis on June 20. However, on Monday, Reyes de-committed from the Tigers and proceeded to commit to Mississippi State on the same day.

The move comes after the Bulldogs hired Matt Barnes, a former defensive coordinator at Memphis as a co-defensive coordinator. Barnes was the Tigers’ defensive coordinator for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

According to 247Sports, Reyes was a Class of 2024 3-star recruit out of Taylor High School in Katy, Texas. Other schools Reyes considered before committing to Mississippi State were Arkansas State, Delaware, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, LaFayette, Montana State and Northern Iowa.

The Bulldogs recently capped a 2023 season where they compiled a 5-7 record and missed out on bowl eligibility. Mississippi State had an opportunity to qualify for a bowl game in its last game of the regular season, but lost 17-7 to rival Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl.

Mississippi State’s 2023 campaign included 2 separate 3-game losing skids and a couple of 2-game win streaks.
