Isaac Smith, the No. 10 safety in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite, announced a commitment to play in the SEC West after he drew interest from a trio of divisional rivals.
Smith chose Zach Arnett’s Mississippi State over LSU and Texas A&M as the Under Armour All-American made the announcement on Instagram. Smith, who is listed at 6-foot and 200 pounds, is from Fulton, Mississippi (Itawamba Agricultural). He was recruited to State by Arnett and Matt Brock.
Smith told Rivals that it came down to the final hours.
“Just being able to stay home, play for my state, represent and just be the next great Mississippi player is powerful,” Smith told Rivals.com. “Picking (the school) was really tough, but I could just see myself (at Mississippi State) more than any other place. It came down to the last 8 hours to figure it out.”
