Jeff Lebby reportedly targeting AAC DC as next MSU safeties coach, per report
Jeff Lebby has reportedly zeroed in on his next safeties coach.
Lebby has reportedly targeted current Memphis Tigers defensive coordinator Matt Barnes to fulfill the role just a few hours after reports emerged that Lebby has targeted Coleman Hutzler as MSU’s next DC.
Barnes has been coaching for 15 years, starting at Delaware State before stints at Florida, Ohio State and Maryland. He was Ohio State’s secondary coach during a run to the College Football Playoff in 2019-20.

Lebby’s coaching staff is coming together nicely. He’s tabbed Hutzler as DC, Matt Holecek as QBs coach –following Lebby from Oklahoma – Anthony Tucker as RBs coach and Chad Bumphis as WRs coach. On top of that, North Texas’ Jon Cooper will serve as TEs coach and Cody Kennedy will coach offensive linemen.
A new era of Mississippi State football is set to begin.
