Mississippi State and Jeff Lebby have reportedly decided on a defensive coordinator hire.

The Bulldogs are reportedly set to hire Alabama OLB coach and special teams coordinator Coleman Hutzler as their next defensive coordinator. Hutzler has spent multiple years in the SEC with the Crimson Tide, Florida, South Carolina and Ole Miss, where he worked alongside Lebby. He also spent 1 year as Texas’ co-defensive coordinator.

This report comes from Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger:

Hutzler started at San Diego as a linebacker from 2002-2005. He began his coaching career at San Diego in a grad assistant role before heading to New Mexio then on to the SEC at Florida. He’s worked with linebackers primarily and in 2017 was nominated for the Broyles Award, given to the nation’s top assistant coach.

Mississippi State had an average defense last season, one that allowed 26 points per game – 10th in the SEC – under Zach Arnett’s watch. The Bulldogs allowed just over 350 yards per game, which sat 6th in the conference.
