Mississippi State getting hammered by fans on Twitter
Mississippi State released a statement on the one-game suspension of five-star defensive end Jeffery Simmons on Thursday. Many on Twitter weren’t pleased with the result.
Check out some of the reactions below:
Because pummeling a woman is an effective way to break up a fight. https://t.co/eZCdOouBjd

Jeffery Simmons got a one game suspension for punching a woman? Terrible. I guess you can get away with stuff like that if you're a 5-star.

CAN'T BELIEVE @HailStateFB letting Jeffery Simmons play for them. Watched video of him brutally beating a female down. TERRIBLE @HailState !

Mississippi St. admission of Jeffery Simmons shows that there is nothing about #Baylor that is setting a new trend. #HailState #mediamiss

So, that seems like a pretty light statement by MSU on Jeffery Simmons. One whole game. For repeatedly hitting a woman. Okey dokey, then…

Absolutely despicable that Mississippi State would allow Jeffery Simmons to enroll https://t.co/lqLyl0l4m5

This is how I know people at Mississippi State didn't watch the Jeffery Simmons video. pic.twitter.com/FzUmNoGEF5

@JulieDiCaro look at the story of Jeffery Simmons admitted to Missisippi state. Just more of the big time affect of the all mighty fball $.

Shouldn't be school's choice. Should be SEC policy. Or NCAA policy. Guilty of this? Can't play. Not even tough call. https://t.co/mCwNEcb1UE

Looks like I had a much bigger problem with that video than the Mississippi State coaching staff.

Would Jeffery Simmons have been allowed to enroll at Miss. State as a common student instead of a FB player?
I think we all know the answer

I’m surprised all these people were expecting anything different.
Why are people surprised by this? Cam Robinson was just caught with a stolen gun and he’s not considered a threat to anyone? Move on people.
I’m surprised it was only 1 game. But I’m not surprised he’s going to play. Next up, Cam Robinson.
Perfect home for an abuser. msu
With this you’re saying ole miss wouldn’t sign such a person? I’ll provide proof if you’d like…he wasn’t even a 4* player.
Not that a prized recruit should have any advantage but in the words of a rebel fan “only 5* recruits”
Got to love Ole Miss fans……Google Stringfellow arrested…
You are very right, Stringfellow was arrested for an altercation that involved a woman. No one is really up in arms at Simmons per say. The biggest gripe is that Simmons is on camera punching a woman on the ground and he is suspended for the game against south Alabama? That’s it? Same punishment as targeting? As for Stringfellow, what was his punishment? He was promptly booted from his school after a good freshman year. I’m not defending either of these kids, but Strongfellow paid for his mistake and and kudos to Washington. A one game suspension just is a terribly light penalty, especially after Baylor and Dorial Green-Beckham (who by the way was a 5* recruit and Mizzous best player that got his butt kicked off campus so fast his head was spinning).
There’s a HUGE difference in what Stringfellow did and what Simmons did. Stringfellow “assaulted” a woman by trying to take a camera from her. He didn’t stand over her and beat her face in. Stringfellow got in trouble because he had a separate incident with a guy after the super bowl.
Yes a camera got broke by Stringfellow but it also states in the report he put his hands on a woman with intent to harm. It was horrible what simmons did but notice how your trying to downplay what stringfellow did?
Ole miss also signed a recruit after he did $3,300 of damage to his girlfriend’s car while she was present during an altercation, but I guess that would be dismissed bc he didn’t “assault” her physically. Not that the punishment is justified but splitting hairs to prove your school’s cleanliness is a little absurd
I agree with the majority of what you’re saying. My point is you have Ole miss fans saying MSU is the perfect home for and abuser while Ole Miss accepted someone kicked out of another school after being convicted of assault that involved a woman. All schools has players that don’t have the cleanest record. No reason to trash another school when you have your own skeletons in your closet.
I know what you are saying BamaTime, and I agree that some Ole Miss fans are going berserk. I strongly believe Simmons should still be allowed to be at Miss State, he needs the help a family atmosphere a football team can bring. One game is too lenient a punishment is all I’m saying. The kid needs help, throwing him in the cold won’t solve anything and I doubt this will happen again. But it does send a bad message, it doesn’t matter if he was still in high school
I agree with you 110 percent.
The same punishment received by Stringfellow should be applied to Simmons. Stringfellow, even though he didn’t punch the young lady, he did commit assault when he grabbed her camera. Simmons on the other hand, repeatedly hit a woman on the ground. Both actions were inappropriate.
I’d be fine with a one year suspension for Simmons. Not that this should be the factor in that kind of decision, but one game or one year – wouldn’t make much of any difference to this season anyway.
You want real punishment? Suspend him for a few games NEXT year.
It’s not State’s responsibility to discipline people who are not enrolled, not members of the team, and did not break laws on campus. Some of these people seem to think an assault charge can keep a public school from accepting an application, as well. Twitter, the fastest way to respond with absolutely no knowledge of what am talking about. Not their fault he didn’t have to sit in Nox. Co. for a month.
Yuuup. But doing actual research is too hard, apparently.
I guarantee you an assault charge can keep someone from getting accepted to a public school. Just because you have the grades and filled out paperwork doesn’t mean a school has to take you.
Agreed, the idea that Mississippi State has no control over a recruit because he had only signed a letter of intent is weak. They have the power to have him sit out a year. Sure, he would stay on scholarship, but they can deny practice and playing time. Mississippi State has that right. Indeed, it would hurt State, but it would help set the young man in the right direction. In essence, he beat the crap out of some lady and the athletic department is downplaying it.
Officially, they can’t do much, and no, they can’t control a recruit or, in this case, signee. But, unofficially Mullen do what he deems fit, however he wouldn’t broadcast it, either.
Assault charges off campus don’t seem to get anyone enrolled kicked out, neither duis, possession. The school is not going to bar someone for misdemeanor they got charged with HS, or there’s a buttload of people I wouldn’t have had to put up with at either school. Again, not yet subject to code of conduct, either. And, yes, if you filled out the paperwork and filled all the prerequisites, a state school DOES have to admit state residents. Now, I don’t remember, but a felony might be different.
Wonder what the Ole Ball Coach will say about this one….
He should have gone to Georgia?
I’m sure that this won’t go ever well here in the South, but I really hate how big of a deal people make about the fact that it was a woman. We’re supposedly entering this new era of equality and the erasure of static gender roles, but in reality, the gulf is growing wider, bearing a whole new set of double standards with it. In every high profile incident, we’re so focused on who is a boy and who is a girl or what color they are or whether or not they were an athlete or a big guy or a little one….. how arbitrary. VIOLENCE IN GENERAL is bad. Most of you wouldn’t bat an eye at a small bar fight between two average frat boys (which happens on a weekly basis in every southern college town), but when its a football player we start spouting off about disturbing trends and violent culture. what BS. It’s not unique to athletes or males. It’s humans. And if any person, male/female/trans/whatever were attempting to assault anyone in my family male/female/trans/whatever, I’d do the same. When a person ceases to act like a civilized and cultured member of society, they forfeit any rights or exceptions they may have been afforded as a part of that civilization or culture…. including the ridiculous privileges and standards we apply differently to “gentlemen and ladies”.
We don’t need your stinkin’ sensibilities here in these parts!
haha ^^^ stategrad, I’m really waiting for them to “let me have it”…. gonna be fun
I agree!
