Mississippi State sees transfer RB Keyvone Lee return to portal
Mississippi State has been a team defined by plenty of movement in the transfer portal, both in and out of the program, and the Bulldogs suffered another exit this weekend.
Running back Keyvone Lee, a former Penn State transfer, announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal as a graduate student, per On3Sports.
Lee joined the Penn State program in 2020 as a 4-star recruit out of St. Petersburg, Florida. In 9 appearances, Lee tallied 438 yards and four touchdowns on 89 carries. He exceeded those numbers in 2021 with 530 yards on 108 carries while also tacking on a pair of scores.
But with the emergence of Nicolas Singleton and Kaytron Allen during the 2022 campaign, Lee fell down the depth chart and only appeared in five games. Thus, he made the move to Starkville.
Lee didn’t find much more usage with the Bulldogs, racking up 41 carries for 215 yards and a touchdown over the past 2 seasons with Mississippi State.
Lee figures to be a sought-after veteran who can add some versatility to a running back room. He showed flashes of being a solid receiving back as well during those 2020 and 2021 campaigns, tallying 27 catches for 196 yards over that span.
As a Florida native, it remains to be seen if one of Lee’s home-state schools pursues him in the portal.
