Mississippi State will be without one of its promising weapons acquired through the transfer portal for the 2023 campaign.

Former TCU tight end Geor’Quarius Spivey—who began his collegiate career with the Bulldogs before transferring to TCU after his sophomore year in 2020–announced on social media on Thursday he was deemed ineligible for a second transfer back to the program where he started

It’s clear Spivey believes he received misleading or false advisement from TCU administrators, noting he ensured he was eligible to transfer back to Mississippi State despite a delay on his decision because of the Horned Frogs playing in the National Championship game on Jan. 9, 2023.

“During the time of that process, I was being told that I could be eligible to play at any school I desire as a grad transfer because I had just graduated from TCU on December 17, 2022. My delay on the decision was because we played in the National Championship on January 9, 2023 and school for TCU started on January 13, 2023. So I was rushed into classes by the academic advisor who does not work at TCU anymore for some odd reason,” Spivey said. “During that time, he said I just had to be in classes in case I was to not transfer and stay at TCU. I still decided I was transferring no matter what, so he told me I could transfer and leave to be eligible anywhere else.”

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound tight end has struggled to find consistent production at the collegiate level since coming out of high school as the No. 2 ranked tight end in the state of Louisiana in the 2018 class according to 247Sports.

He has appeared in 52 career games with eight starts with 27 of those games and five of the starts at Mississippi State. In his career, he has averaged 12.4 yards per reception and had his best statistical season last year, hauling in 11 receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown for the Horned Frogs.

At least for now, it appears Spivey’s final chance to thrive as a collegiate tight end has been taken away. It’s an unfortunate situation, to say the least.
