Mississippi State’s social media team had a tweet locked and loaded for Thursday after the Bulldogs won their first Egg Bowl since 2019.

Lane Kiffin was in the news this week not just for his rumored connection to the Auburn job, but for clapping back at a Columbus, Miss. TV sports director who reported that Kiffin would resign as Ole Miss head coach on Friday to go to Auburn.

On Thursday, though, the Bulldogs topped the Rebels 24-22 to break a 2-game losing streak to their rivals and hand Mike Leach his first win in the series. And the Mississippi State Twitter account was ready to roll just minutes after the game ended:

Clearly, Mississippi State got the last laugh in this one. The bus ride back to Starkville is going to be a fun one on Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs improve to 8-4 and will now await the announcement of their bowl destination on Dec. 4.
