There’s excitement in the air down in Starkville as it’s Alabama week for Mississippi State and that enthusiasm just reached another level thanks to Joe Moorhead’s program landing its latest commitment.

Interestingly, Mississippi State’s new commit hails from Alabama.

Pleasant Grove High School standout Rodney Groce Jr. announced his pledge to join Mississippi State’s 2020 recruiting class on Monday. The Pleasant Grove, Ala., native was formally committed to Nebraska and picked the Bulldogs over scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Georgia Tech, among others.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound defender is ranked as a three-star prospect, the No. 22 inside linebacker and the No. 24 overall prospect from Alabama by 247Sports Composite Rankings.

With Groce joining Mississippi State’s 2020 recruiting class, the Bulldogs now hold commitments from 22 prospects. The Bulldogs currently have the nation’s No. 21 recruiting class and the SEC’s No. 9 class. The Bulldogs now hold pledges from two linebackers in this class as junior college prospect Tyrus Wheat is also committed to Moorhead’s program.
