Mississippi State led 28-0 in the first half against Charleston Southern on Saturday.

But the Bulldogs didn’t get to 28 the usual way with four touchdowns and four extra points.

Instead, State recorded not one, but two safeties in the first half against the Buccaneers. It was the first time State had recorded more than one safety in a game since it did so in 2000 against Florida.

State went on to take a 35-0 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs held Charleston Southern to just 19 total yards in the first half and only one first down.

Not only did the defense take advantage of good field position, it totally shut down the Bucs.
