David Turner is in the middle of a proud papa moment as the Mississippi State defensive line coach will enjoy the Super Bowl in a unique way. After all, he coached Chris Jones and Fletcher Cox in Starkville, and now the players are set to square off in the Super Bowl on Sunday in Arizona.

“Feels good, I’m glad for those guys’ success,” he said. “It’s amazing when it was announced I was coming back, I heard from both of them. It is, it’s kind of a dad feeling and makes you feel good.”

Turner is back at State for his third stint as a coach after he led the defensive line units from 2007-09 and again from 2013-15. Turner joins Zach Arnett’s staff after he spent last season at Georgia Tech as Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Run Game Coordinator.

He has coached 15 NFL Draft picks in addition to several other NFL standouts during his 37-year collegiate coaching career. Along with Jones and Cox, Turner’s coached Preston Smith, Pernell McPhee, Josh Boyd, Kyle Love and Gerri Green.
