The NCAA Softball Women’s College World Series is set for the national title best-of-3 series between Big 12 (and future SEC) rivals Oklahoma and Texas.

The first game of the series is Wednesday, June 8 at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Game 2 will be Thursday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2, and if necessary, Game 3 will be Friday, June 10 at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

No. 1 Oklahoma’s path to the national championship series started with 13-2 win over Northwestern in the first round. Then, Oklahoma beat Texas 7-2 in the second round to send the Longhorns to the loser’s bracket. The Sooners then had to beat UCLA just 1 game of 2 possible games, and lost the first game 7-3 to the Bruins. OU then beat UCLA 15-0 in 5 innings to reach the final series.

Texas, on the other hand, entered the Women’s College World Series as a nationally unseeded team. The Longhorns beat UCLA 7-2 in the first round, and then, lost to OU in the second 7-2. Texas then beat Arizona 5-2 in the loser’s bracket to advance to beat Oklahoma State twice (5-0 and 6-5) to reach the national title best-of-3 series.

Sixty four teams entered the tournament which began May 20, 2022, and the Women’s College World Series final best-of-3 series is set to start on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Thirty-two teams were originally selected on an at-large basis by the Division I Softball Committee. Sixteen teams were seeded and placed at one of the 16 regional sites. The regional site winners advanced to a best-of-3 Super Regionals. The winners of the Super Regionals advanced to the World Series.

Where we currently stand

  • Oklahoma beat Texas 2 of 3 games (3-0 and 9-1) in April during the regular season. Texas, however, defeated the Sooners in Game 3 4-2. All 3 games were in Austin, Texas.
  • Oklahoma beat Texas again in the Women’s College World Series in the second round 7-2.
  • Oklahoma and Texas will play a best-of-3 series for the national title June 8 – 10.
