Alabama baseball is one win away from advancing to the College World Series after blanking St. John’s on Saturday evening. The Crimson Tide took Game 1, 8-0 in front of a record-breaking crowd at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
And what a game it was for Alabama starter Tyler Fay, who pitched 7.1 scoreless innings and struck out 9 batters while allowing just 2 hits and 3 walks. 70 of Fay’s 112 pitchers were strikes, and the Red Storm were left completely stumped by his stuff Saturday night.
Even sitting near and above 100 pitches, Fay was able to get out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the top of the 7th inning.
On the other side of things, Alabama’s offense showed up to play — especially Bryce Fowler, Justin Lebron and Brennan Holt.
The 3 aforementioned combined to total 6 hits and 6 RBIs on Saturday, with Holt’s 2-run double giving the Crimson Tide an early 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning. The Crimson Tide would post a 4-spot in the 4th thanks to a pair of bases-loaded walks and a 2-run double by Fowler.
Lebron put the finishing touches on the evening in the 8th, driving in a pair of runs with a double to deep right center.
The Crimson Tide chase their 6th College World Series berth starting tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET.
