Arizona State sophomore Landon Hairston let his frustration show a bit too much during the Sun Devils’ elimination game against Nebraska in the Lincoln Regional.
The Sun Devils got things off to a good start, taking a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out and the count sitting at 3-2, Hairston held off on what he thought was a ball. Instead, it was ruled a strike.
Hairston responded by flipping his bat in the air in disgust. That’s obviously a no-no, and he was ejected from the game as a result. Here’s video from ESPN:
Unlike Major League Baseball, an ejection means a suspension for the next game. So Hairston will be out for the Sun Devils’ next game, another elimination game as they move on to the Lincoln Regional final against Ole Miss after defeating Nebraska on Sunday.
That would be a big loss for the Sun Devils, who will need to defeat the Rebels twice to advance to Super Regionals for the first time since 2011. Hairston was named the 2026 Big 12 Player of the Year after a massive season. Going into Sunday, he was hitting .405 with 28 home runs and 81 RBI.
