Arkansas designated hitter Kuhio Aloy is expected to undergo surgery to fix a broken hamate bone on Friday, according to a report.
That news was first shared by Whole Hog Sports on Thursday, noting that Aloy suffered the injury on Wednesday in Arkansas‘s win over Tennessee at the SEC Tournament.
This is devastating news for the Razorbacks and their postseason hopes. Hamate bone surgery would likely keep Aloy out for the remainder of the season, although coach Dave Van Horn left open the possibility that Aloy could return if Arkansas makes a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
โSupposedly itโs healed in three weeks, then thereโs the pain situation, then getting back into it,โ Van Horn told Whole Hog Sports. โIf weโre fortunate enough to be playing in three weeks and he could play, weโll see how that goes.โย

Aloy has been one of Arkansas’s best hitters this season. He’s owns the fourth-highest batting average on the team at .293 and has also hit 9 homers this season. His .486 slugging percentage is also 4th among qualified Arkansas hitters.
Arkansas has the day off on Thursday before facing off against Texas in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.
