Attention in the college sports world might be elsewhere right now, but baseball season is rolling along. After Week 5, 10 SEC teams are ranked in the latest D1Baseball Top 25. The bigger news, though, might be the SEC team that isn’t ranked.
Defending national champion LSU has fallen out of the D1Baseball Top 25. The Tigers, which were the preseason No. 2, are off to a 14-7 start this season. Jay Johnson’s team dropped its first 2 SEC games against Vanderbilt, but avoided a series sweep on Sunday.
Texas continues to lead the SEC’s ranked teams. The Longhorns suffered their first loss of the season against Ole Miss, but managed to stay at No. 2 with a 3-1 week for an 18-1 overall record.
Nos. 4-8 in the poll are occupied by SEC squads. Mississippi State slid from No. 3 to No. 6 after a 2-2 week. Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia and Oklahoma all moved up.
Kentucky moved up 6 spots from No. 21 to No. 15 after a 4-0 week that included a sweep of Alabama. Florida moved up 5 spots to No. 18 after taking down new No. 11 Florida State and sweeping South Carolina at home.
Tennessee and Texas A&M are down to Nos. 22 and 23 after each posted 2-2 weeks. Here’s the full poll:
