Florida pitching falters again, Gators lose Gainesville Regional final to Troy

Florida baseball’s season came to an end on Monday at the hands of Troy, 10-2.
The Trojans beat the odds after dropping the first game of the Gainesville regional to Miami. Since then, the Trojans have rattled off 4 wins, including Monday’s deciding matchup against the Gators. Monday’s win advances Troy to the Super Regionals for the first time in school history.
The Trojans took advantage of a battered Florida bullpen (and some questionable decision-making from Kevin O’Sullivan) with a 5-spot in the 6th inning, which all but ended Florida’s season. The Gators tried to make things interesting in the 7th inning, but couldn’t continue the momentum following Kyle Jones’ 2-out RBI single.
Jones was really the only Florida hitter to see success on Monday. He drove in both Florida’s runs and finished with a pair of hits, finishing 2-4 on the evening.
While Florida’s pitching struggled, you have to tip your cap to Troy’s pitching staff — especially Noah Thigpen, who entered Monday’s contest with a 6.62 ERA. Thigpen slammed the door shut for the Trojans, pitching 4 innings with 3 allowed hits and 4 strikeouts, smothering any chance for a Gators comeback.
Troy will face off against Little Rock in the Super Regionals, with the Trojans likely to host.
