LSU baseball head coach Jay Johnson confirmed on Monday night that pitcher Cooper Moore will miss the remainder of the 2026 season with an arm injury.
LSU was at first hesitant to move forward with Moore’s injury citing an uncertain timetable, but officially decided to shut him down for the season and proceed with surgery. There is some good news, though. Moore will qualify for a medical redshirt and, according to Johnson, should be back next year to pitch for the Tigers and make a run at the 2027 MLB Draft.
Moore is a right-handed pitcher who is in his 3rd year of college baseball. He arrived at LSU this past offseason after spending 2 seasons with the Kansas Jayhawks where he pitched 122 innings with a combined 8-7 record, including 7-3 in 2025.
Moore was off to a good start before suffering the aforementioned arm (elbow) injury in SEC play on March 20 vs. Oklahoma. He held a 3-3 record and a 3.38 ERA across 32 innings pitched, striking out 39 batters with only 7 allowed walks.
The Tigers are 23-18 on the season and 6-12 in conference play, having lost 6 conference games in a row. LSU will face New Orleans Tuesday night before travelling to take on No. 13 Mississippi State in Starkville.
