Oklahoma baseball is one win away from the 12th College World Series appearance in program history after downing No. 15 national seed Kansas 8-1 in Game 1 of the Lawrence Super Regional Saturday evening.
The Sooners offense showed up to play, but so did Sooners arm Cord Rager, who threw 6 nearly flawless innings with 1 allowed hit, 1 walk, 0 earned runs and 6 strikeouts.
Kansas’ Dominic Voegele, on the other hand, had an evening to forget after posting 3 scoreless innings. The Jayhawks starter was pulled in the 5th after allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs, including 6 hits and 3 home runs in the 4th and 5th innings alone.
As alluded to, the former Big 12 rivals were knotted at 0-0 heading into the 4th inning, when Oklahoma‘s bats got hot. Dasan Harris drove in the first run of the evening before Dayton Tockey sent a ball 390 feet to left center, tacking on 3 more runs.
The Sooners added 3 more runs in the 5th with a pair of home runs off the bats of Camden Johnson and Trey Gambill.
The Sooners and Jayhawks will face off in Game 2 at 5 p.m. CT Sunday evening.
