Oklahoma baseball coach Skip Johnson made his pitch for OU fans to make the surprise trip to Omaha to support the Sooners in the College World Series Finals this weekend.

Johnson’s OU team has been red-hot this postseason, sweeping its way to the CWS Finals against North Carolina. It’s a familiar position to where the Sooners were in 2022 when they also reached the CWS Finals in stunning fashion before ultimately falling to Ole Miss.

Oklahoma‘s fan support in Omaha was disappointing back in 2022, as noted by play-by-play broadcaster Toby Rowland on Wednesday after OU clinched its spot in the finals with a win over Georgia.

After the game, Johnson spoke about the importance of getting as many OU fans as possible to Omaha.

“Have the whole state that are Sooners to come up here,” Johnson said. “It’s bigger than us. It really is. It’s really about our state. It’s really about being an OU Sooner. It’s about all those details, being thankful, the president was here. We had Barry Switzer here. We had Bob Stoops, Jennie Baranczyk โ€” Trish, Toby Keith’s wife was here. I hadn’t seen her in a long time. And it brings tears to my eyes.

“And Josie and Roger Denny, I mean, John Mateer, our quarterback. I mean that’s what’s being an OU Sooner is about. It’s about being a family. And the more those people can get up here and get it going, the better it is. Believe me.”

Game 1 of the College World Series Finals is on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
