Tennessee baseball lands transfer commitment from potential starting shortstop
Tennessee baseball may have its next starting shortstop.
The Vols landed a commitment from elite transfer shortstop Christopher Ramirez on Monday afternoon. Ramirez comes to Tennessee via California Baptist, where he stared at shortstop for 2 seasons.

In 2026, Ramirez hit .389 with 7 homers and drove in 42 runs. He also showed off solid speed, swiping 21 bags. Ramirez is known for his hit tool and plate discipline โ he struck out just 18 times in 292 plate appearances while drawing 29 walks. He has 34 career strikeouts in 533 trips to the plate at the collegiate level.
Ramirez earned WAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the year for his efforts in 2026. He was regarded as one of the best overall transfers to enter the portal this cycle.
Ramirez joins a Tennessee program that will be looking to take a big step forward in Year 2 under Josh Elander. The Vols made the NCAA Tournament in his first year in charge, but missed out on a return trip to Omaha.
Tennessee’s incoming transfer class also includes players such as Jake McCoy, Ricky Ojeda and Brody Trosclair, among others.
