Texas A&M nearly let a four-run lead slip away, but held on for a 4-3 win over Auburn in College Station on Sunday to avoid a weekend sweep.

Chris Hacopian’s sacrifice groundout in the bottom of the first scored Gavin Grahovac as the Aggies opened up a 1-0 lead. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Hacopian stroked a three-run home run to left field, his only hit of the game, to stretch the advantage to 4-0.

Chris Rembert’s run-scoring single in the top of the seventh brought the Tigers within 3-1 before things got interesting in the top of the ninth. With runners on first and second with one out, Rembert’s base hit — followed by an Aggie error — made it 4-2. Two batters later, Bub Terrell’s RBI single cut the lead to 4-3 and loaded the bases. But Clayton Freshcorn forced Brandon McCraine to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.

Weston Moss (6.1 innings, 1 run, 1 hit, six strikeouts, 0 walks) improved to 4-2 with the win. Alex Petrovic (5.2 IP, 4 ER, 6 K, 0 BB) was saddled with the loss.

Texas A&M hosts Prairie View A&M on Tuesday before traveling to Ole Miss for its second-to-last SEC series of the season. Auburn heads to UAB before a trip to Mississippi State.
