Colin Barczi hit 3 home runs in an MLB park, but the rest of the Vandy Boys couldn’t to enough to overcome 5 runs from TCU. No. 23 Vanderbilt fell to No. 10 TCU 5-4 on college baseball’s Opening Day.
The Dores are taking part of the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Barczi hit 3 home runs in the home of the MLB’s Texas Rangers, all of 430 feet or greater. His 3 jacks were all solo shots, and Vanderbilt was held to just 1 other run in the top-25 showdown to open the 2026 campaign.
Three home runs in a college game, while infrequent, isn't out of the norm. But what Colin Barczi did today at Globe Life is something different: massive park, facing top-end pitching, and 3 absolute no-doubters. It will be hard to top this performance.pic.twitter.com/93DnNJ4Cze

Vandy got 5.1 innings out of Connor Fennell. He allowed 2 runs, both earned, on 2 hits while striking out 7 and walking 1. Tim Corbin turned to Jakob Schulz, Luke Guth and England Bryan in relief. It was Guth who was charged with the loss, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits over 1 inning, facing 6 batters.
TCU took a 5-3 lead in the 8th when the Horned Frogs plated 3. Two of the runs were unearned when an error was made on a throw to first following a strikeout.

Vanderbilt makes a blunder on a play that would have ended the inning but a poor throw gives the Horned Frogs the lead instead

Barczi’s third home run cut it to 5-4 in the 9th. Brodie Johnston came close to tying it on a 1-out double, but the Dores couldn’t get the run home.
Vandy will play Texas Tech on Saturday.
