Things got a little unhinged during last night’s Sun Belt Tournament matchup between the South Alabama and Coastal Carolina women’s teams.
Late in the game, with South Alabama leading by 9 points, tensions reached a breaking point. A Coastal Carolina player, while working in the paint, turned around and lashed out at a South Alabama player. Referees immediately descended to break up the fighting, but one referee appeared to take a shot to the face, tripped and fell to the floor. She was attended to for several minutes before being able to get back up.

As you can see above, 7 South Alabama players were ejected, as well as No. 13 from Coastal Carolina, who threw the initial punch. She can be seen leaving the arena shortly after the incident took place.
In case you’re wondering, South Alabama went on to win 80-70 and will face off against Texas State in the third round of the Sun Belt Championship on Thursday. As of now, it has not yet been determined if the 7 USA players ejected will have be in question for Thursday’s game.
As it stands, UConn has the best odds to win the women’s national championship this season. South Carolina, notably, has an 11% chance per Kalshi.
