Andy Katz has shared his thoughts on the 10 best players appearing in March Madness this year.
With First Four action underway, Katz ranked the top 10 players in the NCAA Tournament. His list is sure to generate some debate.
Katz went with Duke freshman sensation Cooper Flagg at the top spot. Auburn superstar Johni Broome follows at No. 2. Flagg and Broome, the leaders of their respective 1-seed teams, have dominated national Player of the Year discussions. Both were unanimous selections for first-team AP All-America.
A 32-game starter as a freshman, Flagg averages 18.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists over 30.4 minutes. Flaggs averages were brought down by his injury in the Georgia Tech, limiting him to 2 points and 4 rebounds over 15 minutes.
Broome, a senior, has played in 31 games of the 2024-25 campaign, averaging a double-double of 18.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. He’s up to a career-high 30.1 minutes per game.
Katz included Alabama leader Mark Sears and Florida standout Walter Clayton Jr. at Nos. 5 and 6. Sears is the Crimson Tide’s 2nd first-team AP All-American. Clayton made history as UF’s first first-team All-American.
Katz’s list also includes Derik Queen (No. 3, Maryland), JT Toppin (No. 4, Texas Tech), PJ Haggerty (No. 7, Memphis), Donovan Dent (No. 8, New Mexico) Chucky Hepburn (No. 9, Louisville) and Nique Clifford (No. 10, Colorado State).
Andrew writes about sports to fund his love of live music and collection of concert posters. He strongly endorses the Hall of Fame campaigns of Fred Taylor and Andruw Jones.
