Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard was reportedly a top candidate to replace Buzz Williams at Texas A&M. As of Wednesday afternoon, Beard reportedly has a decision on his coaching future.

According to Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello with ESPN, Beard has decided to remain at Ole Miss instead of heading to College Station after “significant discussions” with the Aggies. That should be viewed as a major win for the Rebels after Beard led the program to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019.

Thamel’s report indicates Beard will receive a raise and greater resources with Ole Miss, including a “strong NIL package.”

Beard knows all about coaching in Texas after attending the University of Texas and coaching at multiple stops in the Lone Star State. His breakthrough stint came at Texas Tech when he led the Red Raiders to 3 NCAA Tournament appearances in 5 seasons. Beard also delivered the first-ever trip to the Final Four in Texas Tech history.

After his successful run at Texas Tech, Beard was hired at Texas ahead of the 2021-22 season. He would later be suspended and subsequently fired by the Longhorns during the 2022-23 season after his arrest for allegations of assault on a family member.

Beard was quick to land at Ole Miss ahead of the 2023-24 season where he led the Rebels to 20 wins in his first season before making the Sweet 16 this past season.
