Now that the college football regular season is behind us, college basketball is coming to the forefront of the sports world. College GameDay made its first basketball appearance of the season today, going live from Lubbock for a showdown between No. 6 Houston and No. 12 Texas Tech. ESPN’s second basketball edition of the show will also feature two Big 12 schools.
Shortly after GameDay concluded its festivities on Saturday, the show’s Twitter/X account announced it would be heading to Allen Fieldhouse next weekend. There, the Kansas Jayhawks — and superstar freshman Darryn Peterson — will host the BYU Cougars, who boast their own dynamic future NBA Draft lottery pick in AJ Dybantsa.
BYU (16-2, 4-1 Big 12), currently No. 13 in the country, faces Utah this afternoon before hosting No. 1 Arizona on Monday. A home contest with the Wildcats, followed by a trip to Lawrence, is as difficult a task as any team can ask for in the heat of conference play. Kansas (14-5, 4-2 Big 12) stands at No. 19 in the nation. The Jayhawks play at Kansas State tonight, then have 7 days to prepare for the Cougars, since they have no mid-week game.
Tip between BYU and Kansas on Jan. 31 is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET (ESPN).
