The Arkansas Razorbacks faced the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville on Sunday afternoon, competing for the SEC Men’s Basketball Championship in a game featuring some of the top talent from the nation’s deepest conference.
The headliner of the game in terms of pure basketball stardom was none other than star Razorbacks’ point guard Darius Acuff Jr., who entered Sunday’s championship tilt as the SEC Freshman and SEC Player of the Year.
Acuff showed everyone in attendance why he earned those honors during the waning seconds of the first half, as the soon-to-be NBA Lottery Pick hit an insane 3-pointer while falling out of bounds to give the Hogs the lead heading into the locker room.
Such plays have become routine for Acuff, as the freshman phenom has quickly emerged as one of the nation’s top scorers under legendary coach John Calipari.
The dynamic scorer entered the SEC tournament as the conference’s leading scorer, averaging 22.7 points a game, and is the conference’s third-best shooter from deep, connecting on just under 44% of his 3 pointers on the year.
Acuff’s elite ability to score from deep was illustrated perfectly on this acrobatic 3, and it’s one of the many facets of his game that has scouts at the next level salivating over his potential as an NBA scorer.
