ESPN Analytics predicts the outcome of Florida vs. Kentucky in SEC Tournament
The SEC Tournament quarterfinals begin on Friday with a matchup between the Kentucky Wildcats and Florida Gators. Kentucky, the No. 9 seed, defeated No. 16 LSU and No. 8 Missouri to reach this stage. Florida, the conference regular-season champion, will make its SEC Tournament debut in hopes of defending its crown from a season ago.
Kentucky and Florida battled one another twice this year. Both contests followed the same script, with the Gators racing out to a massive early lead and the Wildcats fighting back to lose by single digits. Florida led by as many as 16 in its 92-83 victory in Gainesville on Feb. 14, and as much as 20 when it beat Kentucky 84-77 at Rupp Arena on Mar. 7.
The Wildcats have not led against the Gators at any point this season. They’re hoping that changes on Friday, but ESPN doesn’t see them pulling out a win. ESPN Analytics gives Florida a 75% chance of knocking off Kentucky for a third time.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi believes the Gators “need a win or maybe two” this week to secure the fourth No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, so you know Todd Golden is going to have his guys ready to rumble. Mark Pope’s Wildcats could potentially move up a seed line themselves if they pull the upset. Tip between Florida and Kentucky is at 1 p.m. ET (ESPN).
