Fans and media came out of the woodwork on Thursday night when 6th-seeded North Carolina fell apart down the stretch and lost in overtime to 11th-seeded VCU in a first-round NCAA Tournament stunner in Greenville, S.C.

The South Region shocker was enough to rile the folks on social media, and with it being North Carolina, a blue blood that is one of the most popular teams in college basketball, the social media attack was that much more vicious. But as much as the Tar Heel players were to blame for the 82-78 overtime loss, it was UNC head coach Hubert Davis who was under attack by those passionate Tar Heel fans as well as media that couldn’t believe their eyes.

North Carolina was seemingly cruising along and headed toward the second round after taking a 56-37 lead with 14:58 left in the second half on a Seth Trimble layup. At that point, according to the ESPN play-by-play, the Tar Heels had a 98.7% win probability.

So, after the 1.3% sliver of a win probability that the Rams from the Atlantic 10 clung to at that point ultimately won out, out came those on social media, and it wasn’t pretty for Davis.

Here is just a sampling of the posts as North Carolina went down in stunning, agonizing fashion:

With North Carolina stunningly out of the picture after the first-round shocker, here is what the Kalshi market is saying about the current odds for those top contenders to make the Sweet 16:
