John Calipari announced Wednesday that star forward Adou Thiero will not play for Arkansas against Kansas on Thursday.
Thiero has been out since Feb. 22 with a knee injury and was previously considered doubtful for this weekend. Now it’s official that Arkansas won’t have Thiero available for Thursday’s game against the Jayhawks.
Thiero is a big loss for the Razorbacks. He averaged 15.6 points per game this season and took on an even-larger offensive role once Boogie Fland suffered a significant injury during SEC play.
However, the Razorbacks were able to play relatively well without Thiero’s contribution’s down the stretch. Arkansas won 4 of its last 5 regular season games in order to secure a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Without Thiero, Arkansas will have to rely on contributions from players like Johnell Davis, Zvonimir Ivisic and DJ Wagner in order to get past the Jayhawks. It’s also possible Arkansas will get Fland back for this game, although he has not played since Jan. 18.
Arkansas is looking to reach the 2nd round of the tournament in John Calipari’s 1st season at the helm in Fayetteville.
Arkansas and Kansas will tip off at 7:10 p.m. ET on Thursday night in Providence, Rhode Island.
