Johni Broome had a performance to remember in the 70-64 Elite Eight victory against Michigan State, but it didn’t come without a major scare. Broome went to block a shot in the second half, and landed awkwardly on both his wrist and his knee. He walked to the bench and locker room, telling his teammates that he thought he was done.
However, the tests were negative, and he came back into the game and hit a 3-pointer to help push the lead to double digits.
He finished the game with 25 points and 14 rebounds and joined the company of Larry Bird with his incredible game.
He joined Bird as the only 2 players to ever have a 25 point, 12+ rebound game on 75% from the field against a top-2 seed. Bird’s was in the 1979 Final Four against DePaul.
For Tigers fans, they would not be disappointed if Broome had a similar performance in the Final Four matchup against the Florida Gators. These 2 teams played once in the regular season, with the Gators winning that game 90-81. In that matchup, Broome had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists.
Tipoff is scheduled for 6:09 p.m. ET, and will be live from San Antonio. The winner of that game will face the winner of Duke and Houston.
