CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein dropped a few SEC basketball nuggets on his X (formerly Twitter) timeline Monday afternoon. Perhaps the most intriguing news from Rothstein’s reports is a better look at who the Florida Gators will face off against and where in 2026-2027.
Florida already knew that it would face South Carolina and Georgia twice this season, as the pair are permanent opponents for the Gators. According to Rothstein’s report, Florida will also face Texas twice this year.
As Rothstein mentioned above, this is fantastic news for college basketball fans. The Longhorns are set to be one of the strongest teams in the SEC this upcoming season, right there with the Gators.
While Florida is set to return the monster trio of Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon and Rueben Chinyelu, Texas boasts an impressive transfer portal haul that includes former Colorado PG Isaiah Johnson, TCU PF David Punch and Auburn W/F Elyjah Freeman, among others. In addition, the Longhorns return standout center Matas Vokietaitis and add high-potential 5-star freshman Austin Goosby.
Rothstein also revealed Florida’s full road slate. Here’s a look:
Filling in the blanks from Rothstein’s reporting, this means Florida will play the following teams at home this season: Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, Mizzou, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
