Former South Carolina center Jordan Butler announced on Monday that he will play his senior season of college basketball at Furman.
Butler, who spent 2 seasons with South Carolina after transferring in from Missouri ahead of the 2024-25 season, consistently played a reserve role in the SEC. He saw an average of 9 minutes per game last season while averaging 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest, and he’s scored more than 10 points just once in his career — last season against Presbyterian.
Furman, then, is a good landing spot for the Mauldin, South Carolina native, whose hometown is located just a few miles away from Furman’s campus in North Greenville. It’ll allow him to start or contribute significantly for a team that has reached the NCAA Tournament in 2 of the last 4 seasons.
South Carolina is starting over from last season in terms of roster construction. The Gamecocks lost 8 players to the transfer portal and have so far added 4 members to its 2026-27 roster, including George Mason’s Kory Mincy, Texas’ Cam Heide, Drexel’s Shane Blakeley and Wisconsin’s Aleksas Bieliauskas.
Lamont Paris still has some work to do.
